alf of women are sexually harassed at some point, a shocking new report has revealed.

A quarter of women are physically attacked, while one in four adults experience physical or sexual assault.

The
statistics are contained in The Working Report on 2015 Services,
Activities and Use: Towards Evidence Informed Services, which was
released by Child and Family Agency Tusla.

58 Tusla-funded services received 88,754 calls last year and supported nearly 25,000 adults who had experienced domestic violence.

Tusla also helped 6,405 loved ones of victims of domestic violence.

Over 2,000 women and 2,600 families were supported in refuges.

More than 3,000 adults were supported in sexual violence/rape centres.

Joan Mullan, National Manager for Domestic,
Sexual and Gender Based Violence Services, Tusla said the report will
    shape our supports services.

She said: “It is a positive
first step for Tusla, towards an evidence-informed approach that can
guide us in our responses to adults, children and families experiencing
domestic, sexual and gender based violence.

    So that we
can ensure they receive the support they need during times of
difficulty. The numbers in the report are not just data, they are the
summary of the real life stories of the adults, children and families
    that frontline services work with.

    “The 58 Tusla-funded
organisations support those affected by domestic, sexual and gender
based violence around the country through a range of channels including
helplines, and direct face to face supports.

“The work they do is invaluable to victims of violence.”
